Study on the Adaptability and Utilization Value of Ornamental Grasses in Lanzhou

Abstract
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the adaptability and utilization value of 27 ornamental grasses in Lanzhou, the phenophase, basic morphological features, ornamental value and adaptability were observed for two years, and the ornamental grasses were divided to 4 grades (from A to D). The results showed that the grasses in A group were suitable to be utilized in Lanzhou, per-forming satisfactory ornamental value and adaptability, could live through the winter without protection, including Festuca glauca 'Boulder blue', Phalaris arundinacea var. picta Linn., Panicum virgatum, Spodiopogon sibiricus Trin., Miscanthus sinensis'Strictus', Eragrostis pilosa (Linn.) Beauv., Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Purple', Carex lanceolata Boott, Stipa tenuissima, Carex giraldiana, Cala-magrostis acutiflora 'Karl Foerster', Miscanthus sinensis Anderss 'purpurascens'. The grasses in D group were not suitable in Lanzhou, including Carex breviculmis R. Br., Pennisetum orientale, Pennisetum alopecuroides cv. 'Little Bunny', Miscanthus sinensis Anderss.
