Calculation of Foundation Settlement Based on Cone Penetration Testing Technology

Abstract
On the basis of existing foundation settlement research,the calculation method for foundation settlement based on cone penetration test was established considering different stratum conditions.In this study,an empirical formula was used to determine initially the calculation depth of the foundation settlement,which was verified by the stress ratio method.A linear empirical formula of the penetration resistance based on cone penetration test was used to determine soil compression modulus.The strain influence coefficient of foundation base by Schmertmann was used to determine indirectly the vertical stress of foundation soil,and the strain influence coefficient under rigid boundary conditions was stipulated to zero.Engineering examples showed that the results of foundation settlement calculated by the established foundation settlement calculation method based on cone penetration had a good agreement with the measured settlement values.This method had clear physical meaning and was applicable to all types of stratum conditions.It had a wide range of applications and a simple calculation process which could be done only by hand.All required parameters to calculate the foundation settlement could be obtained by in-situ test of cone penetration,without drilling,sampling and indoor consolidation tests.This method could avoid such problems as large disturbance of the samples by drilling,large difference between the test results and the in-situ physical & mechanical properties of soil,a small number of tests,insufficient representation of the samples and inconvenience of drilling undisturbed samples.关键词
