Abstract
There would be no modernization in China without rural development. The key to rural development is usually in the non-agricultural sectors, while rural areas in the under- developed regions should pay attention to opportunities in the agricultural sector as well. Two indices, namely non-agricultural growth index and agricultural growth index, are developed to analyze Yuxi's rural- urban relation. It is discovered that insufficient urbanization aggravates Yuxi's rural-urban dual economies. The weak non- agricultural economy suggests that Yuxi should search for opportunities in modern agriculture. Flower plantation seems to facilitate rural growth and the flower- cluster can extend into non- agricultural sectors. We argue that rural-urban integrated growth should be supported by good infrastructure provided by the government and modern agricultural needs to be driven by the market. Yuxi's flower plantation could be a good example of non-agricultural development derived from rural modern agriculture.关键词
