Optimal Strategies of Valve Protection of UHVDC With Hierarchical Connection Structure

Abstract
In UHVDC with hierarchical connection structure, HV and LV valves are connected to AC systems with different voltage levels to improve equipment availability and reduce power loss caused by AC system fault. This paper proposes a commutation failure prediction control linkage mechanism to reduce commutation failure probability and a valve harmonic current protection. The valve harmonic current protection is based on negative sequence voltage amplitude of fundamental frequency to withdraw corresponding valve connected to the AC system with asymmetric fault from service, so another valve can continue to operate normally. Valve undervoltage protection serves as backup protection for AC system with three phase symmetrical fault. On this basis, a multi-level protection action strategy is proposed to improve equipment availability and reduce power loss. Theoretical analysis and Real Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) simulation verified correctness and feasibility of the proposed strategies.关键词
