Abstract
Objective To study the relationship between the dietary habits and the cognitive function of the elderly in the community .Methods The participants were aged 60 years and older who living in xing long zhuang community.The cognitive function was assessed by MMSE and the dietary habits were investigated by questionnaires , and then the relationship between the diet habits and the cognitive function was analyzed by multiple Logistic regression.Results (1)The increased age (P<0.001), the increased BMI (P<0.01) and the history of stroke (P<0.001) were risk factors for cognitive impairment while male (P<0.01), higher level of education (P<0.001), and appropriate physical exercise (P<0.001) may be protective factors for cognitive impairment.(2)The prevalence odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake , weekly intake, and daily intake meat groups were 1.000, 0.602 (0.422-0.885), and 0.586 (0.432-0.763) respectively.The prevalence odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake, weekly intake, and daily intake of soy products groups were 1.000, 0.883 (0.431-0.989), and 0.862 (0.562 -0.903) respectively.The prevalence odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake, weekly intake, and daily intake of fresh fruits groups were 1.000, 0.574 (0.430 -0.890), and 0.496 (0.354-0.687) respectively.The prevalence odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake , weekly intake, and daily intake of fresh vegetables groups were 1.000, 0.821 (0.464 -0.930), and 0.088 (0.035 -0.263) respectively; The odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake , weekly intake, and daily intake of tea groups were 1.000, 0.619 (0.389-0.985) and 0.491 (0.274-0.579) respectively.The higher the frequency of intake of these foods, the stronger the protective effect on cognition .Then,the odds ratios of cognitive impairment in little intake, weekly intake, and daily intake of sugar groups were 1.000, 1.502 (1.104-2.089) and 5.119 (3.332-6.312) respectively, the higher the frequency of sugar intake , the more serious the damage to cognition .Conclusion The dietary habits may seriously affect the cognitive function of the elderly but further longitudinal studies are needed to determine the causality and mechanisms .关键词
