Abstract

To explore the feasibility of kitchen waste and municipal sludge combined thermophilic digestion, this study simulated the actual running conditions in a 50m3 CSTR reactor. Results showed that, under the conditions of hydraulic retention time (HRT) above 20 days and the ratio of restaurant waste and municipal sludge was 4∶ 1, the biogas production and methane concentration increased by 34. 2% and 8. 1%, respectively, than that of kitchen waste digestion only. The concentration of hydrogen sulphide decreased by 65%. The restaurant waste and municipal sludge co-anaerobic digestion not only improves processing capacity and stability but also increases the output and quality of the biogas, which is a new way for the coordinated treatment of different organic wastes.
