Abstract

Xincan Bay and Li'an Bay are important fishing ports and mariculture area in Hainan province, and also an important seagrass protected area. It`s water quality has important influence on both social economy and marine ecology. An approach was taken to estimate the non-point source pollution load and obtain the catchment area and classification by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) and satellite Remote Sensing (RS). GIS technology was used to divide the catchment area and simulate the river network to obtain the watershed area of Xincun Bay and Li'an Bay respectively;the land use status was obtained by remote sensing interpretation;SCS-CN model and the output coefficient method were used to estimate non-point source pollution load. The results showed that the annual load of COD, TN and TP in Xincun Bay was 565.55 tons, 89.68 tons and 9.55 tons, and in Li'an Bay it was 113.48 tons, 20.91 tons and 2.44 tons, respectively. The non-point source pollution is mainly from aquaculture, domestic effluent.
