Impact of locus of control on anxiety and depression in aged adults:the mediating role of intolerance of uncertainty
摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate the relationship between locus of control and anxiety-depression in aged adults,mainly focusing on the mediating role of intolerance of uncertainty. Methods Two hundred and twenty-four aged adults completed the scales of intol-erance of uncertainty,locus of control,and the self-rating depression and anxiety scales. The locus of control scale was used actually to assess one's tendency to be extra locus of control. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics analysis,F test,correlation analy-sis,regression analysis and Pathway analysis. Results ①The mental healthy level of male aged adults was better than that of female aged adults. Female aged adults were more anxious(F＝15. 82,P＜0. 01)and depressed(F＝15. 20,P＜0. 01)than male aged a-dults.②Locus of control were significantly positively correlated with symptoms of anxiety(r＝0. 42,P＜0. 01)and depression(r＝0. 37,P＜0. 01). ③Pathway analysis showed that intolerance of uncertainty partially mediated the effect of locus of control on the symptoms of anxiety and depression. Conclusion The symptoms of anxiety and depression are related with locus of control in aged a-dults,and intolerance of uncertainty may mediate these effects.关键词
