Abstract

A series of briquettes and formed cokes were prepared by using Shanxi fat coal, Shanxi 4#prime coking coal and the corn stalk binders modified by three solutions with different concentrations of NaOH as raw materials and changing the particle size of low metamorphic pulverized coal. The effect of the size of low metamorphic pulverized coal and concentrations of NaOH on the strength of briquette and formed coke were studied. The results showed that the briquette prepared from the corn stalk binder modified by NaOH solution of 2.5%by mass and the pulverized coal with the size of 3-0.425mm had higher compressive strength (>3100N/piece) and fall strength (>98%), and the formed coke prepared from the corn stalk binder modified by NaOH solution of 2.0%by mass and the pulverized coal with the size of 3-0.425mm had higher compressive strength (>2000N/piece) and fall strength (>98%). As more binder enters into the large voids of coarse pulverized coal, the coal particles are well infiltrated, surrounded and fixed, and co-participate in carbonaceous skeleton formation of the formed coke, ensuring the strength of briquette and formed coke. When the particle size of pulverized coal is less than 0.425mm, the strengths of briquette and formed coke are greatly reduced.
