摘要
Abstract
Objective To analyze the epidemiological status of children diagnosed with ocular trauma in Guangzhou, providing evidence for the prevention and treatment of pediatric ocular trauma and the formula-tion of public education policies in this region. Methods The children with ocular trauma admitted to the emergency department were recruited. The database of children with ocular trauma was established. Clinical data, such as name, age, gender, place of residence, chief complaint, disease course, and treatment measures were recorded and the epidemiological characteristics were summarized. Results A total of 804 children with ocular trauma were collected including 542 male and 262 female with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 2. 07∶1. The children were aged from 2 months to 17 years. The proportion of preschool children was the high-est,followed by the infants with a combined percentage of 80. 5%. There was no significant difference in gen-der distribution among different age groups (P>0. 05). A majority of children were diagnosed with blunt trau-ma in the eyeballs and eye appendages (n=779,96. 9%),chemical injuries in 19 cases (2. 4%),and for-eign body injuries in 6 cases (0. 7%). In July, the incidence of ocular trauma was the highest (12. 1%) throughout the year. The quantity of patients with the onset of ocular trauma was the highest (18. 8%)on Sun-day within a week. A majority of patients (43. 5%)were diagnosed with ocular trauma in the evening. Colli-sions and falls were the most common causes (89. 2%). Among 645 cases of ocular trauma in the eyelids and eye surface, most children received debridement and suture under local anesthesia fixed by the boards, followed by debridement dressing and glue adhesion. Conclusions In Guangzhou,a large proportion of pediatric ocular trauma are boys, preschool children and infants. The blunt trauma involved in the eyeball and eye appendage caused by collisions and falls accounts for the highest proportion. Strengthening parental supervision and educa-tion of safety awareness and increasing family environmental safety protection facilities are the focus of public education on preventing and treating pediatric ocular trauma in Guangzhou.关键词
