Vibration and Sound Radiation of Mindlin Plates

Abstract
An analytical solution for the prediction of vibration response and sound radiation of a simply supported rectangular plate based on Mindlin thick plate theory is presented in this paper. The study made use of Rayleigh integral formula to link the sound pressure at the interface with the out-of-plane vibration velocity of the plate. The vibration response and sound radiation of the plate subject to a point force excitation are then obtained using a modal expansion solution. The solution further leads to modal sound radiation impedance and radiation coefficient. It is shown that the vibration response calculated using Mindlin thick plate model is more accurate than that calculated using the classical Kirchhoff-Love thin plate model, particularly at higher frequencies. However, both plate models yield a similar sound radiation efficiency across the frequency range since only plate bending vibration is responsible for the plate sound radiation.关键词
