Abstract
Objective: To investigate the effects of Suhuang Zhike Capsule combined with Pidotimode on induced sputum indexes and airway function in children with cough variant asthma( CVA). Methods: 105 CVA children were randomized into the observation group(n=53) and the control group(n=52). The control group was treated with routine medica-tion and Pidotimode; on which basis, the observation group was also treated with Suhuang Zhike Capsule. Both groups were treated for one month. The clinical curative effect, TCM symptom scores, the levels of induced sputum indexes, airway function, and adverse reactions were observed and compared in the two groups. Results: The scores of nasal ob-struction, cough, itchy throat, shortness of breath were lowered in the two groups after treatment(P<0.01); the de-crease of the observation group were more significant than those of the control group(P<0.05, P<0.01). The total ef- fective rate of the observation group was 83.02% , which was significantly higher than 65.38% of the control group(P<0.05). The percentage of eosinophils, the contents of ICAM-1, MMP-9 and VEGF in induced sputum were lowered in the two groups after treatment, and the levels of the above indexes of the observation group were much lower than those of the control group(P<0.01). The FVC and FEV1 were elevated in the two groups after treatment, the eleva-tions of the observation group were more significant than those of the control group( P<0.05, P<0.01) ; the MMEF and FEF were reduced in the two groups after treatment, the reductions of the observation group were more significant than those of the control group(P<0.01). There was no statistical difference between the two groups in terms of adverse reactions(9.62% vs 15.09% , P>0.05). Conclusion: Suhuang Zhike Capsule combined with Pidotimod can signifi-cantly improve the clinical symptoms of CVA children with satisfactory effect, which may be associated with reducing lo-cal inflammatory infiltration and improving airway function.
