Abstract

In order to reveal the influence of the interfacial tension between fracturing fluid and rock surface on spontaneous imbibiton in low-permeability water-wet reservoirs, a spontaneous imbibition model was constructed upon a modified LW im-bibition model, considering hydrostatic pressure and flow resistance based on the fractal theory, and the relationship between spontaneous imbibition volume and time was then described using the model.The influence of the interfacial tension on spon-taneous imbibition volume was analyzed and revealed, and the imbibition model was verified in comparison with the laboratory data.The experimental and modeling results indicate that the impact of the interfacial tension on the imbibition volume is not monotonous.The capillary force and flow resistance of the oil phase increase with the interfacial tension, while the imbibition volume increases initially and then declines.The value of the interfacial tension can be optimized to obtain the best imbibition effect, and to maximize the imbibition volume and oil recovery.
