Effects of Electroacupuncture on Immune Function, Adrenal Stress and Cognitive Function in Elderly Patients Undergoing Hip Replacement

Abstract
Objective: To observe the effects of perioperative electroacupuncture at "Siguan" point on cognitive function, serum inflammatory factors, adrenal stress and immune function in elderly patients undergoing hip Replacement. Methods: A total of 120 elderly patients undergoing hip replacement were randomly divided into control group and electroacupuncture group, with 60 cases in each group. Serum IL-1β, TNF-α, cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine levels, as well as peripheral blood T-lymphocyte subsets and NK cell levels were measured in both groups. Results: The incidence of postoperative cognitive impairment (POCD) in the electroacupuncture group was significantly lower than that in the control group (P＜0.05). The levels of serum IL-1β, TNF-α, cortisol, epinephrine and norepinephrine in the electroacupuncture group were significantly lower than those in the control group at 6 h, 12 h and 24 h after operation (P＜0.05). The CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD16+, CD56+ T cells and CD4/CD8 ratios in electroacupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the control group on 1, 3 and 7 days (P＜0.05). Conclusion: Perioperative electroacupuncture stimulation at "Siguan" point can improve the postoperative cognitive function in elderly patients undergoing hip Replacement, which may be related to the inhibition of inflammatory reaction, adrenal stress and enhancement of immune function.关键词
