Study on Microcapsules for Self-healing System of Insulating Epoxy Resins

Abstract
The concept of self-healing materials based on bionics provides a possibility for self-healing of microcracks in insulating epoxy resins. Self-healing materials for insulating epoxy resins are required to have good heat resistance and can repair at room temperature. In this paper, we summed up the self-healing system suitable for insulating epoxy resins by comparing the existing self-healing system of epoxy resins by microcapsules. Microcapsules that poly (urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) as shell and a mixture of E-51 epoxy resin (DGEBA) and trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (TMPEG) as core were successfully produced by in situ polymerization. The basic properties were tested by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that the mixture of DGEBA and TMPEG were successfully wrapped by PUF into a stable spherical structure, the microcapsules have excellent heat resistance and the reactivity of the core is high, which indicate that the microcapsules have the potential as a material for insulating epoxy resin self-healing system.关键词
