Effect of Ca Content on Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Mg-Al-Zn Alloy

Abstract
Magnesium alloys Mg-Al-Zn alloyed with different Ca content of 0, 0.3%, 0.6%, 0.9%, 1.2% and 1.5% were prepared by gravity casting. The microstructures of alloys were observed by optical microscope (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the corrosion resistances of alloys were investigated by electrochemical analysis and static weight losing method. The results show that the main corrosion mechanism of alloys is galvanic corrosion between α-Mg and second phase. The corrosion resistance of alloys increases gradually with increasing Ca content up to 0.9% and then decreases sharply. The phenomenon is related to the morphology change of second phase in the alloys with different Ca contents.关键词
