Abstract
The friction stir lap welding was carried out on the ferrite nodular cast iron and 08F low carbon steel. The tensile-shear fracture load of the weld joint was investigated by tensile testing machine. The microstructure of the welded joint was analyzed by SEM and microhardness tester. The results show that at high rotational speed of the FSW tool (1 000 rpm), a high tensile-shear fracture load (up to 8 000 N) of the specimen is obtained. The sample is broken on the 08F low carbon steel after the tensile-shear test because of the high hardness martensite near the joining surface in the stirring zone. The fracture load is almost not affected by feed rate (40~70 mm/min). At the low rotational speed of the FSW tool (600 rpm), the pearlite structure is formed at the junction of the advancing side and retreating side, and a lower tensile-shear fracture load of the specimen is obtained. The sample is broken on the nodular cast iron of the stirring zone after the tensile-shear test, which is brittle fracture. The crack propagation is promoted by graphite stretched by friction stirring.关键词
