A Study of the Employment Choices of Platform-based Flexible Laborers from the Perspective of Intergenerational Differences

Abstract

Flexible employment, as a new form of employment, has attracted laborers of all ages. With the "post-80 s" and "post-90 s" new generation laborers' entering the labor market, intergenerational differences and management issues have become an important area of research. This paper, based on the data of survey of the employed personnel from the micro-industrial network part-time platform, has analyzed the impact of the intergenerational differences on laborers' employment choices. The results of the study show that generational and age effects have significant impact on the employment choices of the flexible employment laborers. While the "post-90 s" flexible employment laborers are more concerned about the freedom of time and their individual development in the flexible employment, the "post-80 s" and "post-70 s" flexible employment laborers pay more attention to the return of the work itself, and are more willing to engage in flexible employment.
