摘要

Abstract

In this paper, we analyse the grain size of Fengning loess, systematically.The results show that: (1) the Fengning loess was mainly composed of coarse silt particles (32-63μm) and sand particles (>63μm) , with the average size larger than that of Loess Plateau.Base on the grain-size characteristics of Fengning loess, we suggest that the content of sand particles (>63μm) was controlled by not only the changes of Asian winter monsoon, but also the changes of Hunshandake Desert′s boundary. (2) vertically, the grain size distribution of Fengning loess exhibits an abrupt shift at 236 cm (61.5 ka) , with the increasing percentage of sand particles (>63μm) , and larger average grain size.Based on the previous studies, we suggest that this shift should mainly result from the expansion of Hunshandake Desert, with the global climate transition from warm and humid to cold and dry.
