摘要

Abstract

The composites based on polypropylene (PP)and magnesium hydroxide was prepared via the melt blending.The influence of the amount of the unmodified and modified magnesium hydroxide pre-pared by conventional precipitation and high gravity precipitation on the flame retardant properties and mechanical properties of PP/Mg(OH)2composites were studied.The experimental results indicate that the flame retardant properties are improved and mechanical properties are decreased with the increase of magnesium hydroxide content.Compared with the conventional precipitation,the composites with mag-nesium hydroxide prepared by high gravity precipitation have better flame retardant properties and me-chanical properties,and these composites are obviously superior than the PP/Mg(OH)2 composite ma-terial made from commercially available magnesium hydroxide.Compared with the unmodified magnesi-um hydroxide,the flame retardant properties and mechanical properties of composites with modified magnesium hydroxide is enhanced because of the interface adhension between magnesium hydroxide and polypropylene is enhanced,and the dispersiblity in polypropylene is improved too.
