CBCT in the Diagnosis and Treatment Planning of Fractures of Jaws

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical value of CBCT in the diagnosis of jaw fractures. Method: 76 patients with upper or lower jaw fracture were selected and retrospectively reviewed. Regular X-ray plain scan, panoramic radiographs and CBCT examinations were underwent and analyzed for each patient. The results were compared and the outcome of surgery were reviewed. Results: The accuracy rate of CBCT in the detection of mandibular fractures was 100%; while the rate in maxillary fractures was 96.1%;and the location,style and displacement direction of jaw fracture resulted in greater resolution. Conclusion: The lower radiation dose and more user-friendly upright position used for scanning make CBCT the way forward for jaw fracture diagnosis and treatment planning.关键词
