Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of classical and rock music on learning and memory abilities and immune system function in rats.Methods:Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into three groups:the control group,the classical music group,and the rock music group.Taped classical or rock music were played repeatedly 2 hour a day for 30 days.Spatial learning and memory behavior changes were investigated via the Morris water maze.The levels of interleukin-2(IL-2),interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in serum and brain tissues were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).The levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD),lipid peroxide (LPO) and monoamine oxidase (MAO) were measured by chemical colorimetry.Results:Compared to the untreated rats,exposure to classical or rock music significantly shortened the latency of finding the hidden platform (P＜0.05).The time percentage spent in target quardrant and the times across target platform were increased in the classical music-and rock musicapplied groups (P＜0.05).No significant difference was noted between the classical music group and the rock music group (P＞0.05).The levels of TNF-α,MAO and LPO in serum and brain tissues in the classical music group were decreased,while the IL-2,IFN-γ and SOD levels were increased combared with the control group (P＜0.01).There was no significant difference in the levels of TNF-α,MAO,LPO,IL-2,IFN-γ and SOD between the rock music group and the control group (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion:Both classical and rock music could improved the learning and memory abilities of rats,but only classical music could significantly enhance the immune system function.关键词
