Determination of volatile components in e-liquid by needle trap-GC/MS

摘要

Abstract

For analyzing the volatile components in e-liquids, a NT-GC/MS method was developed by optimizing sampling methods, extraction and desorption conditions. Four types of e-liquids were tested with the developed method. The results indicated that: 1) The optimum pretreatment conditions were extraction at a constant current pump velocity 7 mL/min at 50 ℃ and desorption at 250 ℃ by heating closed cycle purging NT with a blowing needle. 2) 31 compounds were identified in e-liquid sample A by NT-GC/MS; the average relative standard deviation of components’peak areas was 5.37% for 5 repeated tests of sample A. 25 compounds were identified in sample A by SPME-GC/MS; the average relative standard deviation of components’ peak areas was 8.59% for 5 repeated tests of sample A. 3) The most important aroma substances in the four different e-liquids were 2,3,5-trimethylpyrazine, peachlactone, benzylalcohol and cis-jasmone, because they played an important role in demonstrating the aroma characteristic of an e-cigarette. This method features a high sensitivity and good repeatability, it is suitable for the rapid analysis of volatile components in e-liquids.
