Research Progress on Composition, Structure and Application of Different Starch Sources in Animal Production

Abstract
Starch is an important source of energy demand for livestock and poultry. It also has the characteris-tics of easy digestion and absorption, high energy utilization rate. The digestion, absorption and metabolism of starch also play an important role in animal health and growth. Because of the different grain size and composi-tion structure of starch from different sources, the effects on the nutrient digestion and absorption, growth per-formance of animals are also different. In this paper, the research progress on the application of starch from dif-ferent sources in animal production is reviewed from the aspects of animal growth performance, digestibility of nutrients, intestinal microbial community, blood indexes and feed pellet quality.
