Abstract

Based on the finite element method (FEM), the vibration of a cruise ship is predicted. Firstly, the vibration excitation characteristics of several major vibration sources, such as main engines, auxiliary engines, propellers etc., of the cruise ship are analyzed. Then, the vibration prediction model for the cruise ship is established and simulated by means of PATRAN software. And the results are analyzed. The root mean square (rms) values of the vibration acceleration are compared with the limit values of the ISO 6954-2000E standard. The results show that the vibration standards are met everywhere, except for the seventh deck partial cabin. It is found that vibration acceleration value of the partial cabin of the seventh deck seriously exceeds the limit value of the standard at 11 Hz frequency due to the partial cabin resonance caused by propeller operation. In view of the problem of excessive vibration of the partial cabin, it is proposed to weld the L-shaped steels beneath the vibration excessive area of the deck to reduce the vibration. After the improvement, the maximum vibration acceleration value of the seventh deck is reduced by 56.7 %, which meets the standard requirements.
