Abstract

Since the International Organization for Standardization issued the international standard ISO 362-1:2007 for vehicles accelerating passing-by noise (PBN) measurement, several problems, such as the higher testing requirements, the increase of difficulty in measurement and the lower qualification ratio of data, have appeared. These problems have puzzled the technicians and engineers for outdoor surveying. In this paper, the time domain signal of indoor PBN is obtained through time signal synthetic algorithm. The tire noise-speed relation curve is obtained by testing the tire on the road and the chassis dynamometer. By means of the synthetic algorithm, the indoor tire noise is replaced by the outdoor tire noise, and the equivalent value of the outdoor PBN is calculated. Then, this method is applied to the outdoor PBN test of vehicles of M2 and N2 categories. It shows that the PBN error between the equivalent results and the outdoor measured values is within 1 dB (A), and over 40 % testing time is saved. This method is applicable to PBN measurement for the vehicles of M2 and N2 categories, which is of high engineering application value.
