Abstract

To investigate the biological control agents to counteract the maize disease, plate dilution method was used to isolate the strains from the healthy Eucommia ulmoides. The results showed that the total of 55 strains of endophytic bacteria in Eucommia ulmoides were obtained, belonging to 5 genera: Bacillus, Paenibacillus, Burkholderia, Cupriavidus and Lysinibacillus. Then the antimicrobial effects of the endophytic bacteria were tested by dual culture, and the candidate DZSY21 was found to have significantly antagonistic effects on the growth and development of Bipolaris maydis and Fusarium moniliforme, resulting in the inhibitory rates of 61.30% and 79.10%, respectively. Microscopic examination of affected mycelia of phytopathogen showed some mycelia treated with the DZSY21 were swelled, contorted and broken. Molecular characterization assays indicated that the DZSY21 is Bacillus subtilis, containing chemotaxis to the root exudates of maize.
