Abstract

In order to more effectively extend and cultivate the new barley variety 'Mengpimai 5' under the ecological environment of arid farmland in eastern Inner Mongolia, and to optimize the integrated barley cultivation technology for achieving high and stable yield and obtaining high-quality grain, the current research assessed the effects of different sowing dates and densities on barley yield and agronomic traits. The results showed that for cultivating the new two-rowed barley variety 'Mengpimai 5' in arid farmland of eastern Inner Mongolia, the optimal sowing date is around May 10 and the optimal planting density is 360 000~400 000 plants 667 m2.Under these conditions, the yield can reach 469.36 kg/667 m2 and 1 000-grain weight can reach 53.5 g, and such level of 1000-grain weight meets the National Standard. The analysis of variance indicated that the effects of sowing date and density on barley yield reached a significant level (P < 0.05). Therefore, choosing the appropriate sowing date and density can increase the yield of this variety.
