Abstract
The liquid metal fault current limiters ( LMFCL) based on self-pinch effect is effective in limiting the system fault currents. In this current-limiting process, the Ga In Sn metal will be vaporized, along with the electric arc occurring in this gaseous medium. It is necessary to conduct research on the characteristics of this type of arc.Based on magnetohydrodynamics ( MHD) theory, the Ga In Sn arc model in gaseous Ga In Sn medium was built. The simulations were conducted on the whole process from fully-developed Ga In Sn vaporization to arc extinction. From these simulations, the distribution and characteristics of velocity field of gas, pressure field, temperature field, etc.were obtained. Through the analysis on these characteristics, the reason for electrode erosion imposed by arc was studied. This work provides the foundation for further research on electric arc evolution in gaseous metal of LMFCL.关键词
