Abstract

With the meteorological information of wind-induced swing flashover fault in certain EHV transmission lines and the line parameters, accident analysis is carried out. When the wind-induced swing angle is calculated with the simple pendulum model provided by the codes, the results are found far less than the threshold of flashover, which shows that there are some unsafe factors in the wind load parameters provided by the codes and the rigid rod method. So, a finite element model of a 4-span insulator-conductor coupling system is established to conduct the analysis of maximum wind-induced swing angle of insulator string under different reference wind speeds in time domain. The formula between the maximum wind-induced swing angle and basic wind speed is fitted to predict the critical wind speed for wind-induced flashover accident. The values of non-uniform factor of wind pressure α and wind load adjustment factor βc are also discussed. The results show: (1) The critical wind speed predicted by the fitting formula is within the measured accident wind velocity range but slightly smaller than the design reference wind speed. (2) The rigid rod method does not consider the influence of fluctuating wind speed and the non-uniform factor of wind pressure α in the codes are relatively small, which leads to a large underestimate of the wind-induced swing response of the conductor under strong wind. (3) When αequals to 1.0, βc equals to 1.2, the result obtained with rigid rod method is close to that from finite element dynamic calculation and more in line with actual situation.
