Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between fetal lateral ventriculomegaly and abnormal karyotype. Methods The karyotype analysis was performed among 147 fetuses with lateral ventriculomegaly from December 2015 to November 2017 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Fourth Military Medical University, and the relationship between lateral ventriculomegaly and abnormal karyotype was retrospectively analyzed. Results Among the 147 cases of fetal lateral ventriculomegaly revealed by ultrasonic screening, there were 123 cases of mild ventriculomegaly, 14 cases of moderate ventriculomegaly, 10 cases of severe ventriculomegaly, 94 cases of isolated ventriculomegaly, and 53 cases of non isolated ventriculomegaly. In 53 cases of non isolated lateral ventriculomegaly, 20 cases had abnormal cardiovascular system. Karyotype analysis showed that there were 126 normal karyotypes and 21 abnormal karyotypes in 147 cases of fetal lateral ventriculomegaly, including 9 cases of trisomy 21. Conclusion The incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in fetuses with lateral ventriculomegaly is high. The abnormal karyotypes include trisomy 21, trisomy 18, chromosome deletion, and translocation. Therefore, when the ultrasonic screening suggests the broadening of the fetal lateral ventricle, it is necessary to perform karyotype analysis.
