Abstract

For avoiding the potential excessive release of organic matter and N from ferric and aluminum sludge (FAS), the characteristics and mechanisms of treating eutrophic river water by reusing FAS to construct filtration columns were analyzed, and FAS modified by anaerobic heat treatment was taken as an auxiliary medium in filtration columns (2%).The results indicated that under the conditions of no influence on other properties, P removal rate from the river water was significantly improved by FAS addition in filtration column, and P concentrations in the effluent was lower than 0.01 mg·L-1 during the whole test. The adsorbed P by FAS were mainly in NaOH extractable, HCl extractable, and residual forms. High throughput sequencing analysis indicated that addition of FAS promoted the enrichment of functional bacteria e.g., Rhodoplanes, Sulfuritalea, Nitrospira, Leucobacter, Geobacter, Dechloromonas that were beneficial to biogeochemical cycles and complex pollution control. FAS can be taken as an auxiliary medium of filtration columns and effectively control P pollution of eutrophication river.
