Abstract

In this study, the electrocoagulation (EC) technology was investigated for tetracycline (TTC) removal from aqueous solution. The effects of electrode materials, current intensity, conductivity and initial TTC concentration on TTC removal by EC were examined. The performance of TTC removal by EC was studied through oxidation performance evaluation experiment, UV-vis absorption spectra and XRD analysis. Results showed that for TTC simulated wastewater with initial TTC concentration of 0.05 mmol·L-1, the removal rates of TTC and TOC by EC with iron electrode (area=300 mm × 80 mm, thickness=2 mm) could reach up to 99.6% and79.8%, respectively, after 15 min electrolysis at the current of 0.3 A and conductivity of 1 000 μS·cm-1.About41.9% TTC was removed by oxidative degradation. EC technology with iron electrode could efficiently remove TTC, which has an excellent oxidation performance and low cost.
