MRI-based brain functional connectivity research on healthy adults intelligence

Abstract
Objective:To explore the neurobiological underpinnings of individual differences in intelligence by using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) in healthy adults.Methods:The current study included 208 right-handed healthy volunteers who conformed to the recruitment standards.Guided by instructions from a professional experimenter, the participants finished the Chinese Revised Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-RC) and were scanned by resting state functional MRI.Based on R2014 a MATLAB platform, we used SPM12, DPARSF, Rest, Xjview, BrainNet, SPSS17 software to calculate the functional connectivity strength (FCS) , and then carried out statistical analysis.Results:Positive correlations between the FCS results and the FSIQ scores were observed in the right inferior frontal gyrus (r=0.22, P<0.01) , left inferior frontal gyrus (r=0.14, P<0.05) , right supramarginal and angular gyri of inferior parietal (r=0.23, P<0.01) , medial superior frontal gyrus (r=0.19, P<0.01) , left anterior cingulate gyri (r=0.22, P<0.01) .No negative correlation was found between functional connectivity and total IQ.Conclusion:The neural basis of intelligence mainly occurs in the frontal lobe and parietal lobe, which supports the existing P-FIT theory further.关键词
