Abstract

Objective To develop a video on standard behavior to prevent needle-stick injury for nursing students and to explore its clinical application effect. Methods A total of 100 nursing students in 2017 were selected with convenient sampling and divided into the control group (n=50) and the experimental group (n=50) by drawing lots. The control group received routine pre-job training and the experimental group video demonstration and training on how to prevent needle-stick injury and routine pre-job training. After the training, the two groups were investigated by a self-designed questionnaire of nursing students ' knowledge of preventing needlestick injury. The knowledge of preventing needle-stick injury and the incidence of needle-stick injury in nursing students during the practice were compared between the 2 groups. Results The theoretical knowledge of nursing students in the experimental group were better than those in the control group (P<0.05) , and the incidence of a needle-stick injury in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P <0.05). Conclusion The video on prevention of needle-stick injury in nursing students can effectively improve students' knowledge of needle-stick injury prevention and operational skill and reduce the incidence of needlestick injury, which is worth to be popularized in hospitals and schools.
