Abstract

Hejing County of Xinjiang was taken as the study area, in which the main data source included Landsat images of 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015 as well as MODIS-NDVI 16d synthetic products of 2000-2015.The features of dynamic change of vegetation coverage at the grassland during 4 different periods were classified and evaluated by means of ArcGIS overlay analysis function, and the response of vegetation coverage change at the grassland to temperature and rainfall was researched based on the data of temperature and rainfall by means of NDVI deviation and trend line analysis.Results are as follows. (1) The vegetation coverage in the study area degraded by13763.48 km2 during 2000-2015, which accounted for 49.42%of the total area.The degraded area was 12611.65 km2 larger than the increased area of vegetation coverage and 11.95 times as much as the latter. (2) NDVI of the vegetation in the study area tended to fall during 2000-2015;moreover, the correlation coefficient between annual average temperature and NDVI was-0.32, which was a negative correlation, and the correlation coefficient between average annual precipitation and NDVI was 0.76, which was a positive correlation. (3) The annual change of NDVI value was unimodal in the study area, with the average NDVI value in summer increasing by approximate-3.6%every 10a, the average NDVI value in autumn increasing by approximate -1.6%every 10a, the average NDVI value in spring increasing by approximate 0.1%every 10a.The correlation coefficient between NDVI value of vegetation and average monthly temperature was 0.801 (n=144), and the correlation coefficient between NDVI value of vegetation and average monthly precipitation was 0.832 (n=144), which both exceeded the inspection of p<0.01.
