Comparative Study of English Translations of Mao Zedong's Verses:A Case study on 1958 Translation and Official 1976 Translation

Abstract
This paper chooses the 1958 translation in Chinese literature and 1976 translation by the Mao's verses translation group as the objects of comparative study, and uses corpus-based method and manual screening to analyze the two levels of text and non-text.The differences between the two versions examined, and finally the reasons found that the revised 1976 translation has the tendency of simplification.In the level of text, it has the characteristics of word deleting, syntactic structure shifting down and the poetic form blurring.In the level of non-text, it has the characteristics of information reducing.The differences between the two versions are summarized as two points:the strengthening of political motives in the special period and the weakening of the translator's subjective status.关键词
