Abstract

To explore the effects of hole-applied granular fertilizer on vegetable growth and N utilization, an open field experiment was conducted with cabbage, different irrigation regimes (90, 50 mm) and initial soil Nmin (183, 76 kg·hm-2) were set according to the nutrition demand of cabbage combining with the transformation rule of ammonium nitrogen fertilizer in soil, the cabbage growth, root development, N assimilate, and inorganic nitrogen changes in soil near root zone were compared between hole-applied granular fertilizer and conventional fertilizer.The results showed that the yield of cabbage was not significant decrease after application of hole-applied, comparing the local recommended N rate with broadcast application, and the yield was 79.4 t·hm-2.Compared to the unfertilized side, the root length density of taproot was 8 cm·cm-3 in 0~10 cm soil layer in the treatment of hole-applied, and the same amount of root length density near the position of fertilizing was also observed, indicating that the hole-applied granular fertilizer was conducive to the intensive growth of root surrounding the position of fertilization, and the nutrient uptake of the root system.Furthermore, the technique of hole-applied could significantly decrease the Nminin deep soil layer (30~90 cm) , reducing the possibility of nitrate leaching.
