Abstract
Objective To investigate the prevalence of chronic disease among community-living elderly people, and to analyze their home-care needs. Methods A convenience sample of 400 elderly people from a community in Jinan were included in this study. The questionnaire based survey was adopted to collect the general information, prevalence of chronic disease and home-care needs of elderly people. Results There were 198(51. 16％) elderly people with at least one chronic disease, and the most common chronic diseases were hypertension, coronary heart disease, diabetes mellitus, disease in cervical and lumbar spine and chronic bronchitis. Most of the elderly people (79. 84％) had the home-care needs, which main included regular monitoring on vital sign (57. 88％), health education and disease prevention (54. 01％), life behavior guidance (45. 48％), drug administration instruction (39. 53％) and psychological care (23. 00％). Conclusion Findings showed a relative high prevalence of chronic disease and high level of homecare needs among community-living elderly people. It is required to enhance the chronic disease management and home-care service for the older people who live in the community.关键词
