Abstract

Objeetive:Sasanquasaponin(SQS) is an extract from Camellia oleifera Abel,which is considered to have an anti-inflammatory property.This study is to determine whether SQS can prevent experiment colitis induced by dextran sodium sulfate (DSS).Method:C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 5 groups.The experiment groups were treated by intragastric injection with different concentrates of SQS for 21 days,and then treated with DSS for 5 days to induce colitis.We recorded the body weights and colon lengths of mice.colons were also sectioned for hematoxylin & eosin(H&E) staining.The gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines,including TNF-a,IL-1 β,MCP-1,and iNOS in colon were determined.Results:Compared to the control group,body weights and colon lengths in the DSS group were decreased significantly.But,we could not observe remission of inflammation based on the parameters such as body weight,colon length and H&E staining,and gene expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines,in SQS-treated groups in comparison with ISS model group.Conclusions:SQS had not shown the effect of preventing DSS-induced colitis in our current study.
