Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of humanistic cohesion course in school hospitals on improving the ability of humanistic care of nursing students. Methods From May 2017 to July 2018, 55 nursing students who were interned in a secondary hospital in Shanghai were selected as the objects of observation. Fifty-five nursing students were trained in Nursing Humanities theory course and care practice within three weeks of their first clinical admission. The caring ability of nursing students was assessed by caring ability assessment form (CAI) before and after the course. Results There is a significant statistically difference (P<0.01) between before and after the intervention on the total score of CAI and scores in patience and knowing dimension as well. When the before and after scores of courage dimension were compared, the statistical difference was found (P<0.05). Before and after CAI scores of none previously humanistic trained nursing interns were compared, the statistical difference was not found (P>0.05). As to those of previously humanities trained ones, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). Before and after CAI scores of technical secondary school were compared, the statistical difference was not found (P>0.05). Before and after CAI scores of junior college or higher vocational nursing interns were compared, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). Conclusion Establishing humanistic course of school hospital cohesion in the early stage of internship can improve nursing care ability of nursing students. Nursing students who have received humanistic care training can benefit more from the cohesion course, and this course has achieved better results in college and vocational nursing students, but there is still much room to improve nursing care ability of nursing students as a whole.
