Understanding and Research Progress of Parotid Gland Tissue Injury in Patients with Head and Neck Cancer in the Era of Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy

Abstract
Radiation-induced injury of parotid glands is one of the most common complications of radiotherapy for head and neck tumors. Compared with conventional radiotherapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has a more pro-tective effect on the parotid glands. However, radiation-induced injury of parotid glands remains inevitable in IMRT. It is de-sirable to explore how to dynamically evaluate the changes in parotid glands during radiotherapy, and to develop optimized schemes to protect the parotid function. This paper reviews the recent studies of and advances in the effects of IMRT on pa-rotid glands of patients with head and neck tumors.关键词
