Treatment experience of acute comitant esotroina

Abstract
Objectve To investigate an efficient method in treatment of acute comitant esotropia and assess its effects. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 12 patients of acute comitant esotropia. We removed the covering in one patient,with esotropia after covering the dominant eye, and the others were given press-on prism for 6 months, then followed by strabismus surgery. We examined stereoacuity at far and near distance, by synoptophore and Titmus stereogram in all patients, at the first visit and at the end of treatment, the changes were observed. Results After removing the covering, in one patient, Hirschberg test was normal, and diplopia disappeared after 2 months. In the other 11 patients, Hirschberg test turned normal, and diplopia disappeared at the end of 2 weeks post-operation. Stereoacuity at far and near distance was improved after treatment, examined by synoptophore and Titmus stereogram. No recurrence of strabismus was found during the follow-up of one year. Conclusions Wearing the press-on prism and timely surgery after strabismus turns stable can be helpful to eliminate diplopia, reconstruct single binocular vision, with a good prognosis, which is an efficient treatment for acute comitant esotropia.关键词
