Abstract

Objective To explore the feasibility of the posture detection device for quantitative assessment of the rotation motion in Parkinson’s disease(PD) motor function test.Methods Angle signals were collected from 9 patients with PD through a body-worn detection device as the patients carried out the rotation of the upper limb motor function in the Unified Parkinson Rating Scale.After the signal was preprocessed , features including mean , variance, root mean square, amplitude slope, and period slope were extracted from the time domain based on extreme values.Principal Component Analysis was used to reduce the dimensionality of the feature set .In addition, Support Vector Machine( SVM) model was built, and the model score was compared with clinical score. Results Leave-one-out cross validation showed that the SVM model established in this study could accurately evaluate the rotation motion.The probability of model score and clinical score error less than 1 was 0.944.The mean and standard deviation were 0.092 ±0.601 respectively.T-test showed that P=0.759, which indicates no statistical difference between the two scores.Conclusion The posture detection device can accurately and objectively score the rotation action , which is worthy of clinical promotion.
