Advantages of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy Using Flattening Filter Free Techniques and Active Breathing Control for Early-Stage Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with Small Lesions

Abstract
Objective: To investigate advantages of active breathing control and flattening filter free (FFF) techniques o-ver traditional stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) in total treatment time (TTT), setup error and radiation dosimetry for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer ( NSCLC) patients. Methods: A total of 26 NSCLC patients with small lesions were selected as subjects in Radiation Technology Center of Harbin Medical University Cancer Hospital from 2017 to 2018. Subjects were assigned to group A (SBRT with flattened model, n=10), group B (SBRT with FFF techniques, n=8) and group C (SBRT with ABC and FFF techniques, n=8). We analyzed setup errors in X, Y and Z direction. Data were re- trieved from registered images. We compared differences among 3 groups in TTT, setup errors, target delineation, and V5 , V20 and dosimetry of the affected lobe. Results: TTT in group C was significantly shorter than that in group A ( P < 0. 05), and no obvious difference was found between group B and group C (P>0. 05). Machine unit/TTT in group C was significantly more than that in group A. The setup error in group C was the smallest (P<0. 05). V5 and V20 of the affected lobe in group C were lower than that in group A and that in group B (P<0. 05). Conclusion: Active breathing control and FFF techniques have obvious advantages in the treatment of early-stage NSCLC with small lesions such as shorter treatment time, higher patient comfort, smaller error and better protection for the affected lobe.关键词
