Effects of Dietary Crude Protein Level on Nutrient Digestion and Metabolism and Serum Biochemical Indexes of Weaned Donkey Foals

Abstract
The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of dietary crude protein ( CP) level on nutrient digestion and metabolism and serum biochemical indexes of weaned donkey foals. Thirty 5 to 6?month?old male donkey foals with good body conditions were selected, and the weight was ( 88.21 ±5.79) kg, ran?domly divided into 3 groups, each group contained 10 donkey foals. Donkey foals in the 3 groups were fed the experimental diets which had the same digestive energy and CP levels of 12.10%( groupⅠ) , 13.95%( groupⅡ) and 15.87%( group Ⅲ) , respectively. The trial period lasted for 70 days, with pre?feeding period of 10 days and formal trial period of 60 days, the first 31 days were the early trial stage and the last 29 days were the later trial stage. The results showed as follows: 1) the ether extract ( EE) and carbohydrate ( CHO) apparent digestibility of group Ⅰ were tend to higher than that of groupsⅡ and Ⅲ( P=0.083,P=0.077). 2) The in?take of calcium and phosphorus of groupⅠwas significantly higher than that of groupsⅡandⅢ( P<0.01) , the intake of crude fiber ( CF) and acid detergent fiber ( ADF) of group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ( P<0.01). The fecal phosphorus content of groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of groupⅢ( P<0.05) , the fecal ADF content of groupⅢwas significantly higher than that of groupⅠ( P<0.05). The urine calcium content of groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ was significantly higher than that of group Ⅲ( P<0.05) , and the urine phosphorus content of groupⅡwas significantly higher than that of groupsⅠandⅢ(P<0.05). 3) The nitrogen intake of group Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of groups Ⅰ and Ⅱ( P<0.01) , the fecal nitrogen and retention nitrogen of group Ⅲ were significantly higher than those of groups Ⅰand Ⅱ( P<0.05) , the urinary nitrogen of groupⅢwas significantly higher than that of groupⅠ( P<0.05) , the biological value of nitrogen of groupⅠ was significantly higher than that of groupsⅡ andⅢ( P<0.05) , and the urine energy of groupⅢwas significantly higher than that of groupsⅠandⅡ( P<0.01). 4) In early trial stage, the serum total amino acid content of groups Ⅱ and Ⅲ was significantly higher than that of groupⅠ( P<0.05) , the serum immunoglobulin M ( IgM) content of group Ⅰ was significantly higher than that of group Ⅱ( P<0.05) , and the serum complement 3 ( C3) content of groupⅢwas significantly higher than that of group Ⅱ( P<0.05). In later trial stage, the serum total amino acid content of groupsⅡandⅢwas signifi?cantly higher than that of groupⅠ( P<0.05). In conclusion, dietary CP level increasing can increase the CF, ADF intake and nitrogen intake, and deposition, increase serum total amino acid content, decrease calcium, phosphorus intake and EE, CHO digestibility and biological value of nitrogen, reduce the energy efficiency, but have no effects on digestion and metabolism of calcium, phosphorus, CF, NDF and ADF. Under this ex?perimental condition, the dietary appropriate CP level for donkey foals is 12.10%.[ Chinese Journal of Animal Nutrition, 2019, 31(8) :3905?3913]关键词
