Abstract

In order to study the time-domain characteristics of acoustic emission (AE) and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) signals during coal rock fracture and the relationship between stress and these signals, uniaxial compression experiments of various coal samples were carried out in this paper. During the loading process, AE and EMR signals were acquired synchronously. Then the ringing count and energy parameters of the two signals were statistically analyzed, and the relationship between EMR signal amplitude and stress drop was studied. Experimental results show that: during the process of coal fracture, obvious AE and EMR signals can be detected. Among them, EMR is relatively weak in quantity, and the amplitude, count and energy of AE and EMR signals are consistent in time domain. EMR signals generated by coal fracture have a better correspondence with the phenomenon of stress sudden drop. There is a significant linear correlation between the EMR amplitude and the stress drop. The more obvious stress drop phenomenon corresponds to the stronger amplitude of EMR signal.
