Abstract

It has become clear that in higher plants there exists the linker of nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton (LINC) complex after the discovery of Sad1/UNC84 (SUN) domain proteins AtSUN1 and AtSUN2 in plants.Although some key components and interactions are still unknown,it was found that SUN domain proteins are highly conserved across kingdoms.Plant SUN domain proteins and newly discovered Klarsicht/Anc/Syne1 homology (KASH) domain proteins are the key components forming the LINC complex in plants.WPP domain interacting proteins (WIPs) are anchored to the outer nuclear envelope (ONE).The plant KASH proteins are anchored to the plant nuclear periplasm with their C-termini.They have a highly-conserved X-VPT motif at the C-terminus in comparison with PPPX in opisthokonts.Herein,recent progresses in the past decade in plant nuclear envelope (NE) proteins that form the bridge between the inner and outer nuclear membranes (INM and ONM) are reviewed.
