Abstract
Research on information seeking behavior is one of the core research areas of user information behavior. In this study, we investigated how postgraduates do the online information seeking under different task domains (shopping, travel, research and consumer health) to identify differences in searching needs, subjects and several methods were adopted, including the simulation laboratory experiment, observation method, questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview method. This study focuses on the whole complete process of user information seeking behavior. The results show that in different task situations, the user’s online information seeking behavior have significant differences in the selection behavior of the information source, the construction behavior of the query and retrieval, the web browsing and result selection, and the search duration. In addition, the user’s subject familiarity, difficulty, complexity, progress, and satisfaction perception are significantly different in different contexts. This research will help to enrich the empirical research foundation of the field of information seeking behavior, and also help to optimize the design of the information search platform and enhance the users’ information seeking experience.关键词
