Mediating Effect of Impulsivity between Anxiety and Aggression in Male Adolescents with Conduct Disorder

Abstract
Anxiety and conduct problems,having a high rate of comorbidity,affect a considerable proportion of children and may cause significant impairment in functioning.Recent studies have evidenced the implication of anxiety in the development of conduct disorder(CD),yet few studies have examined the psychological mechanism by which anxiety influences the psychopathology of conduct disorder.In this study,a series of self-report questionnaires were administered to 45 patients with CD and 63 healthy controls(HC) to evaluate aggression,impulsivity,and anxiety,respectively.ANCOVA including age as a covariate showed that anxiety,impulsivity and aggression were higher in CD patients compared to HC.Correlation analysis showed anxiety,impulsivity and aggression were correlated with each other positively and significantly in CD patients.Pathway analysis showed that the impulsivity fully mediated the effect of anxiety symptoms on the aggression in CD patients,but not in HC group.This study highlights the importance of the mediating effect of impulsiveness on the influence of anxiety symptoms on CD aggression.Our findings may be of valuable clinical implications that releasing impulse adaptively may be potentially helpful to relieve the influence of anxiety on the CD aggressive behaviors.关键词
